5.1 Fabrication & Mold Defects
Defining physical defects caused by molding, tooling, dispensing, layering, or fabrication processes
- Flash: Thin excess PVC extending beyond the intended Patch geometry or mold parting area.
- Burr: An unwanted sharp or raised edge of excess material remaining after molding or trimming.
- Short Shot: An incomplete fill where PVC fails to fully occupy the intended mold cavity or detail.

- Pinhole: A small opening or void in the PVC surface caused by trapped air, contamination, or incomplete material formation.

- Mold Shift: Misalignment between mold sections or tooling features resulting in displaced Patch details.
- Misregistration: Incorrect alignment between colors, layers, graphics, or dimensional elements.

5.2 Material & Curing Failures
Defining defects caused by material formulation, contamination, curing conditions, or material instability
- Under-Curing: Insufficient heat or curing time resulting in PVC that has not fully developed its intended physical properties.
- Tackiness: An unwanted sticky or adhesive surface caused by incomplete curing or material formulation issues.
- Over-Curing: Excessive heat or curing time that can alter the intended hardness, flexibility, color, or surface characteristics.
- Scorching: Thermal damage caused by excessive heat exposure, resulting in discoloration or degraded PVC.
- Delamination: Separation between PVC layers, backing materials, or bonded components.
- Plasticizer Migration: Movement of plasticizer through or out of the PVC, potentially causing surface changes or contamination of adjacent materials.

5.3 Surface & Cosmetic Defects

- Color Variation: A visible difference in color between the Patch, its intended target, or production units.
- Color Drift: A gradual shift from the approved color target during production or between production batches.
- Surface Blemish: An unintended visible imperfection affecting the appearance of the PVC surface.
- Surface Scratches: Unwanted marks, lines, or abrasions visible on the Patch surface.
- Texture Variation: An unintended difference in surface texture, pattern, or tactile finish.

5.4 Physical & Environmental Testing
Defining tests used to measure Patch durability, material performance, attachment strength, and environmental resistance
- Shore A Durometer: A standardized instrument and scale used to measure the hardness of flexible PVC.
- Peel Strength: The force required to separate an adhesive, backing, or bonded layer from its attached surface.
- Adhesion Strength: The force required to separate bonded Patch components or attachment materials.
- Tensile Strength: The maximum pulling stress a PVC material can withstand before breaking.

- UV Weathering: Accelerated ultraviolet exposure used to evaluate fading, discoloration, cracking, and material degradation.
- Temperature Cycling: Repeated exposure to defined hot and cold conditions used to evaluate dimensional and material stability.
- Cold-Crack Resistance: The ability of PVC to resist cracking or fracture when exposed to low temperatures.
- Humidity Resistance: The ability of the Patch and its components to withstand prolonged exposure to moisture and elevated humidity.
- Dimensional Stability Testing: Measurement of changes in Patch shape or dimensions after environmental or physical exposure.
5.5 Inspection & Acceptance
Defining the procedures, tolerances, and acceptance criteria used to determine whether a finished Patch meets specifications
- Visual Inspection: Examination of the finished Patch for visible defects, workmanship, color, detail, and overall appearance.
- Dimensional Inspection: Measurement of the Patch against specified size, thickness, height, and geometric tolerances.
- Dimensional Tolerance: The permitted variation from the specified physical dimensions of the Patch.
- Color Tolerance: The permitted variation from the approved color target.
- AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit): A statistical sampling method used to determine whether a production batch meets defined quality requirements.
- First Article Inspection: Detailed inspection of the first production unit or initial production sample against approved specifications.
- Production Sample: A representative Patch selected from a production run for inspection or testing.
- Defect Classification: Categorization of defects according to their severity and effect on appearance, function, or safety.
- Critical Defect: A defect that could create a safety concern or cause the Patch to fail a critical requirement.
